I had a situation recently whereby I upgraded a Windows 10 (1607) guest under VMWare to 1709; on reboot the VMWare console screen went black – I could access the vm via RDP but not via the VMWare console.
My issue related to the vmware tools in that I needed the latest installer/iso; once I upgraded the tools the console started working again.
